Mohsen Makhmalbaf is an Iranian filmmaker, playwright, and novelist. He and his family, all filmmakers in their own right, currently live in Paris and make their films in India, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Hamid Dabashi is a professr at Columbia University and the author of many books and essays on cinema, including Close Up: Iranian Cinema, Past, Present and Future; Dreams of A Nation: On Palestinian Cinem; and Makhmalbaf at Large: The Making of a Rebel Filmmaker.
